Psalm 7 - Refuge
A few mornings ago, I was returning from my morning walk with Scout and it was one of those “right place, right time” moments. One of the trees in my neighbor’s yard was raining down its small yellow leaves. There wasn’t much of a breeze that morning but it just felt like the tree decided, “this is the time.” And literally by the afternoon, all the leaves had fallen. But when I came across it in the morning, the branches still looked full of leaves but they were raining down in this beautiful cascade of gently falling leaves. I set my camera up on a tripod and just recorded about seven minutes of the leaves falling down. My neighbor was out doing the same. But as I stood there under this tree and felt the leaves falling all around me, what I felt was a deep sense of peace - I felt like each leaf was reminding me of God’s abiding presence falling down around and upon me. Maybe it was just that I had been listening to Psalm 7 many times over that morning but the opening line in the song...”oh lord my god in you i take refuge” and then the later ones:
and i will thank the lord
for he is just
for he alone
is the honest judge
so i will sing praises
to the name of god
most high most high
That moment under the tree has stayed with me for the last few days. That moment felt very much like a refuge for me - a refuge surrounded by the presence of God. Even as I type this, I am simply hearing the repeat in the end of the song, “most high most high...”
I thank you, Lord.
