Wait for the Lord 05 - A Living Force
It is so tempting to take Nouwen's title for today's devotion and make it about Star Wars. But there is something far more significant that happened today than a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Nouwen wrote for this day about the power of remembered love - moments, experiences, stories that help to remind us in the present about when and how we have experienced the love of Christ. These remembrances are what allow us to face many of the challenging circumstances of life with a measure of hope, of faith, of trust, and courage. He writes, "Though memory, love transcends the limits of time and offers hope at any moment of our lives."
The picture here may look just like an ordinary room in a church. However, this morning it was a truly holy space. I sat in with one of the small groups that meets at the church and all I can simply say is that there was a powerful sense of the holy in that space as we remembered love. Remembered when we experienced the tangible love of God to help where we are today - circumstances of current lives, concerns and fears about the world, and the list goes on. Deep and emotional and powerful things were shared in this space and the power of the loving Spirit of God was so very present.
So today, I give thanks for the living force of God's love that has been, is, and will be.
