Wait for the Lord 01 - Don't Just Sit There
For Advent this year, I will be following a devotional booklet put together of Henri Nouwen's writings called, "Wait for the Lord." Being on the road yesterday coming home from Thanksgiving I didn't get a chance to write about day one. Day one was entitled "Don't Just Sit There" which was more of an ironic title as the devotion itself focuses on the idea that many feel waiting is a waste of time. We are reminded in Psalm 27:14 that we are called to "Wait for the Lord, be strong and let your heart take courage."
For me, I have been growing to learn (although I am not there in practice as yet) that waiting is not a passive activity. Its not just sitting on the couch and hoping something will happen. But there's an expectancy in waiting. Waiting is prayer. Waiting is listening. Waiting is expectation. Waiting is the knowledge that God is at work and we will see those ways.
