Last Monday I shared about the series on The Sermon on the Mount we have been doing in the congregation I serve. We’ve been at it in worship and small groups since June and we are nearing the end. Through the series, we have used different images on the front of our bulletin cover to depict “The Way.” Our second is this one from when we were in Quebec this summer where we took a day to visit the Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-lac. It is a Benedictine monastery that began in 1912 and continues its work through the present day.
One of the things that I loved about our visit was the reminder that these Benedictines have continued many of the same practices that began with St Benedict of Nursia when he founded the Abbey of Monte Cassino in 529. As we toured the Abbey and learned of its history, I was profoundly moved by remembering the truth that we are truly surrounded by “so great a cloud of witnesses” as we read about in Hebrews 12:1. We are not alone in seeking to follow the Way of Jesus but we are together in this journey with all those seeking to follow the path today and all those who have gone before us. We are not the first to try to follow Jesus’ way and we will not be the last either. To me, that is a great comfort.
A few other quick things…
First, a calendar update. I’ll be sending out a message later this week with info about the calendars I’ll be making available. There will be three different ones - one of sunrises from 2024, one of “Paths” (no Scripture passages) or “Paths of Faith” (with Scriptures), and one from the Daily Doggo Devotions Instagram feed I curate (@dailydoggodevotions). So look for that later this week.
Second, there has been so much beauty these last few days that I thought it was worth just doing a simple share of some of them. Enjoy.
