The Second Gaze - Someone I Care About
Wait, that's a bookcase, not a "someone"! True, but this bookcase speaks this morning of someones I care deeply about. Yesterday, my decided it was time to do something about the chaos of our bookcase. Her idea wasn't about organizing by subject or alphabetical, but beauty. So as we embarked on this, our children were each roped in to help as well-with each using their different gifts to help. There was some frustrations that arose of different ideas of how to do it and what to keep or let go of. There was also laughter in discovering things that we hadn't been able to find and also at the discovery of a book from 1974 of "how to talk to your kids about sex." But it was a team effort and, in the end, we have a new piece of beauty in our living room. I am grateful not simply for what my family did but how each brought the beauty and giftedness of who they are to our time on this yesterday.
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Jews or Greeks, slaves or free- and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.
