The Second Gaze - Outside the Window
We got yet more snow earlier this week - it wasn’t the 8-12” that was predicted unfortunately . It ended up being about 2” of sleet/ice and then powdery snow on top of that. Our driveway was fun to deal with after that. Part of yesterday was spent getting our cards cleaned off and drivable after the storm moved through. This was the view from one of our cars when I first got into start it up. Can’t see much.
This spoke to me of “outside the window” because there are many times in our lives where we don’t fully see what is ahead. We have hopes and dreams and expectations for what is ahead but we don’t always know. We may think we know what God is up to in the world but then God surprises us. The way isn’t always clear. Paul notes something of this...
We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (Message Translation)
But what I really love about this picture is that while what is outside the window isn’t clear, the light is still making its way in. The light that will eventually melt the snow and the ice, the light that will lead the way, the light of Jesus.
