The Second Gaze - A Sound I Heard
On my walk yesterday morning, I was the only one out and I was trying to be tuned in to the sounds around me - the little clicks from Scout's claws on the path, the distant sounds of cars on the nearby road, the soles of my shoes as I walked, and my own breath. But what I heard most of all came from the chorus of birds in the trees - especially those that sounded like they were calling to one another and going back and forth. I obviously don't know what was being communicated, of course, but it sure felt like they were having some kind of conversation. One nearby would speak and a reply would come from some distance away. I stopped for a few minutes to simply listen in stillness to what was stirring all around.
