The Gifts of Imperfection - Guidepost 7 - Cultivating Play and Rest
Brown ends this chapter with a few simple words... "Today I choose play and rest."
That was me today. It was a really full and challenging week and I came to today- my Sabbath day. I made a choice today to not check church email and took my dog out to my favorite nature center. It was a stunningly beautiful morning- a blanket of fog, cool temperatures and a long hike. It was a perfect morning and what was exactly I needed. There was a lot I “needed" to do- the lawn needed to be mowed, there were tasks for church I hadn't done, and more than a few other things I could think of to do-but what I needed was the Sabbath to play and to rest.
I seem to remember something in Scripture about the gift of Sabbath rest...
This picture captures for me the gift of this day and will hopefully continue to remind me of listening to God, to my spirit, to my body, and taking time to play and to rest.
