Savoring the Word 06 - Luke 7:18-35 - Signs
One of the questions I asked the congregation this week was to look for the signs or the measures of God's work around you each day. In the passage for this week, John asks Jesus about whether he is really the one that they were waiting for - the Messiah..."Are you the one who is to come, or should we wait for another?" It would have been nice if the response had been a simple, "yes" or "no" but that's not the way that Jesus rolls. Jesus replies, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.” Blind see, lame walk, lepers cleansed, deaf hear, dead raised, poor have the good news brought to them. All of them things that people have seen and heard that say, "God is at work."
So, this week there were many things that spoke of that for me. There were a lot of challenges that arose this week but there was a tremendous amount of blessing that came. This picture is from a walk this morning. It was a cold morning today after some snow a few days ago and I just loved the way that the snow had turned to ice on the grass. As I walked across the grass, there were the clear signs of where I had stepped and what was still "untouched." I think of that with God in our lives - sometimes it is us needing to look back and see the places where God has been moving.
Jesus could have said, yes I am the one who you have been waiting for but instead, he pointed to what has already been - what was already seen and what had been heard. Signs that God is at work.
