The last few days feels like I have seen the same thing at two different places in the morning. Beautiful, cool (relatively, it is summer after all) mornings with some hints of fog and mist as the day begins. At Winton Woods yesterday and Rowe Woods today, there were these beautiful mists blowing across the waters. I took a bunch of videos of these but the one from yesterday is really still connecting with me.
This was recorded looking down from one of the bridges crossing the lake and I love the way that the mist and the water ripples are just slowly moving toward the light. I love the way that the mists shift and turn while the waves feel much more uniform. As I took in these spaces, I remembered the words from Matthew 11:28-30 where Eugene Peterson translates the words of Jesus:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Those mists look to me like unforced rhythms of grace.
With each of these moments the last few days, I feel that I have needed spaces like this. We’ve been dealing with Covid in our house since Monday and then just all the news that has come down the way this week has just felt...ugh.
This isn't something I'm sharing about how anyone should be feeling right now...simply sharing this moment and offering this space.
