Psalm Photos - 47 - Praise
Psalm 47
Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah
God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the king of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm.
God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted.

So, how to capture this God who is awesome, most high, great king, and highly exalted? How possibly can the created capture the Creator? I thought about pictures of vistas, mountains, etc but none come close to capturing this awesome God. Then the answer hit me as I got in the car this afternoon and realized I did not have my sunglasses. My eyes could not adjust to the brightness outside of the full sun shining off the snow that fell last night. Even as I squinted, I could not get my eyes adjusted, so I ended up wearing my wife’s sunglasses for that trip until I was able to find mine later in the day. Light…is so often used to describe seeing God, whether like Paul on the road to Emmaus or the ways that people have shared about near-death experiences. Light. Blinding, overwhelming, beautiful light. This is the closest I could come today to capturing some of what the Psalmist says today focusing on the One to whom we sing praise…sing praise…sing praise…sing praise…and sing praise. Amen.
