Psalm Photos - 123 - Mercy Rains
Psalm 123
To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

Three times in four verses, the word mercy is used in this Psalm. Mercy from persecution and mercy from a served from a master. While the words are not here in the Psalm, "let mercy rain down" is what kept coming back to me as I read this several times over. The mercy of God is one that showers down upon us from a gracious God to undeserving people. That's what we call, "grace." This picture was one I took a few weeks ago after a rain and the droplets were just staying on the irises in our garden. I love this pic because, even though the rain has stopped, the evidence of it remains. That's how I think of God's mercy - we may not see it all the time, but we do see the results - the results in our lives and in the lives of others. God's mercy leaves a visible mark upon us - not a scar or a wound, but an example of beauty and love. I most often see it in grateful living and in mercy passed along.
