Psalm 119:8-16 - Bet
How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments.
I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes.
With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth.
I delight in the way of your decrees as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts, and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

“How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word…”
I saw this little family of ducks the other night. The little ones were these beautiful little fuzz balls and were having a grand time swimming all over the place, climbing on the rocks on the shore, and a few looked like they were trying to see how fast they could swim. It was beautiful. Even as they swam a bit off, Mom was there to bring them back. Like yesterday’s section of Psalm 119, this section reminds me of how we need one another to life this faith thing. There’s the beautiful saying that has unfortunately become a bit cliche about how it takes a village to raise a child. In the church, this is lived out as we all take responsibility for the nurture of the young in age and the young in faith. In the PCUSA, when we perform a baptism, there is always a question asked of the congregation about their commitment to helping nurture this person in faith. It takes us all together. I am thankful for the many who have helped nurture me and I pray that I am able to do the same for others.
