Psalm 119:73-80 - Yodh - Created
Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.
I know, O Lord, that your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness you have humbled me.
Let your steadfast love become my comfort according to your promise to your servant.
Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.
Let the arrogant be put to shame, because they have subverted me with guile; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts.
Let those who fear you turn to me, so that they may know your decrees.
May my heart be blameless in your statutes, so that I may not be put to shame.

Ok - a little lightheartedness for today. Sad but true (but not surprising if you know me), the first time I learned the Hebrew alphabet I could not think of the character, yodh, without thinking of the little green Jedi master from Star Wars...Yoda. Just how my slightly twisted brain works. So, when I came to that character in this Psalm, my brain went there once again. And this time as I read the passage, I thought of the ways that things are built up in the Lego games on the Xbox that my boys love so much. A character comes upon scattered bricks, the correct button is held down, and all the pieces start flying around until they assemble into the finished object. So, this morning as I read the first line of this section - "your hands have made and fashioned me" I asked my boys to try to re-create that idea in actual legos...hence what you have in this picture for today.
There is, of course, deeper meaning to this - God (not a little green Star Wars character) did fashion us and create us uniquely and beautifully. That process of creation and re-creation is ongoing as God continues to be at work in the world. I do not pretend to understand how it all works, but I do believe that God has a hand in how the world was created and the ongoing role that God plays today. I am thankful that God has been and always continues to be at work. God, our creator...thank you. May we be good stewards of what you have created - ourselves and all that is around us.
