Psalm Photos - 119:17-24 - Gimel - Seeing
Psalm 119:17-24 - Gimel - See
Deal bountifully with your servant, so that I may live and observe your word.
Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
I live as an alien in the land; do not hide your commandments from me.
My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.
You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments;
take away from me their scorn and contempt, for I have kept your decrees.
Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
Your decrees are my delight, they are my counselors. ------ Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
I am so thankful for the gift of sight. Honestly if I could only keep one sense it would be the ability to see. Seeing is core to my experience of God and of the world. For some, music or the sounds of life is what lifts their spirits. Others it's what they taste. For me, it is what I see. I immediately focused on the above verse from today's passage because I feel like sight helps me open up to the wondrous things of God from what I see and read in God's word to what I see in Creation around me. I feel that God helps illumine what I see much like glasses sharpen up how I see naturally. Without my glasses, the world is a blur. With my glasses (or contacts) I am able to see as the world really is. I want to be able to see the world as god saw it at creation - looking at all and saying that it was good, beautiful, exactly as intended. While there is brokenness around us, there are still many glimpses of the original beauty. I love being able to see that. Thank you God for the illumination of life.
