Psalm Photos - 119:145-152 - Qoph - Promise
Psalm 119:145-152
With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord. I will keep your statutes.
I cry to you; save me, that I may observe your decrees.
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I put my hope in your words.
My eyes are awake before each watch of the night, that I may meditate on your promise.
In your steadfast love hear my voice; O Lord, in your justice preserve my life.
Those who persecute me with evil purpose draw near; they are far from your law.
Yet you are near, O Lord, and all your commandments are true.
Long ago I learned from your decrees that you have established them forever.

The last few sections of Psalm 119 have spoken of the promises of God. The last few have been a bit more towards recognizing the promises that have been fulfilled. This one much more towards a call upon God to live out the promises and asking for God's faithfulness to be displayed. While this picture doesn't reflect the "rising before dawn" and "eyes awake before each watch of the night", it does reflect the symbol of God's promises that we identify with more than any other. From the Noah story, the rainbow has been the traditional representation of the "bow in the sky" that God placed to assure the people that He would never again do what had taken place. Yet, even with that promise, we continue to go before God just as the writer did in this Psalm asking to see the promises at work and God's faithfulness displayed. I ask for those things regularly as I wrestle with the circumstances in our world that are heartbreaking, sorrowful, and tragic. I trust in the long-established promises, but do desire to see them in places I have yet to see transformed by the kingdom.
