Psalm Photos - 110 - Unbroken
Psalm 110
The Lord says to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”
The Lord sends out from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your foes.
Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day you lead your forces on the holy mountains. From the womb of the morning, like dew, your youth will come to you.
The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter heads over the wide earth.
He will drink from the stream by the path; therefore he will lift up his head.

You might recognize this picture from yesterday, but it is of course a different angle. As I looked at the picture, I not only saw the knot and the rope, but I also saw a cross. I saw a sign of the ways that God turned the world upside down and used what was formerly a weapon into a tool for redemption and forgiveness. I saw a God whose mercy and forgiveness is unbowed and unbroken. I saw the light that still shone through even when we try to block it. This Psalm was a bit of a struggle for me through the day today - I kept trying to find out exactly what it was saying - then I saw it - I saw a message about unbrokenness - a mission and a message that God had before God's people that could not be thwarted regardless of what we as humans try to do. This Psalm is one that was quoted by Jesus as a prophecy of the Messiah and that is the ultimate message before us - that God's power is unbroken and unbowed and God's love even more so.
