Psalm 72 - My Rainbow Morning

First off, I apoloize for the horrible spelling and grammar in the Psalm 70 and 71 reflection. I went back and looked at it and...wow. What happened to me with that? Good grief.

Anyway, onto Psalm 72 and back to Fischer’s translation. This Psalm is a song asking for righteous actions by a leader. As I read Fischer’s translaton this morning, I was thinking of how so much of how he puts it is seen in nature. Here is the NRSV translation of it and here are a few lines from Fischer’s:

Endow power with justice
Let it embrace upgrightness...
Let the mountains hold peace fast for people
Let the hills reverberate with the movements of justice
Give power eyes to see the needy...
Let power be for refreshment
Like rain upon the mown grasses
Like showers on the open earth...
You care for the poor and the broken
Your soothe their souls
Plucking out barbs of crookedness and violence...
There will be grain in abundance in the land...
And people will blossom out of the citiies
Like wild herbs spreading over the fields...
Your unsayable name is glorious
It fills the world to the brim with its brightness

The nature imagery throughout this call for righteousness and justice was on my heart as I took Scout out for a walk just around our neighborhood this morning. What started the connection for me was this flag at one house where we walked.

It spoke to me of the beauty of the diversity of all of nature, all of creation, and also the work of equality and justice for all people in our country and around the world. And then I started to see those colors all around on my walk.
