Psalm 46 - A New Still Place
Yesterday, I was so blessed to find a new vista that I had not seen before at a nature center that I have been to probably hundreds of times before. It was walking down a road that I had never walked down before. And I came to this boat ramp and here was the vista. The lake was nearly perfectly still, there were birds flying and landing all around, and the temperature was perfect. Only thing missing was a blue sky but I’ll take it. As I walked down the path toward this, I was listening to The Writers’ Almanac podcast and this was the poem that ended it...
Against Speed by Jonathan Green
To be anywhere
you have to speed down
and walk slowlyto know intimately
just your small plot
of earththat was given to you
by luck and

so many racing
beyond the speed limit -you learned nothing
except life has
passed you by.From "Afloat" © 2008 Broadstone Books
How perfect for that moment.
I was so grateful that it was a space where I could experience the words of Psalm 46 that I read just a few days before...
Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.Psalm 46
I am grateful for that still place.
