So today is honestly going a bit backward - it isn’t today as much about finding something around me that illuminates the Psalm but instead trying to find something in the Psalm that speaks to what I saw today. This morning, I saw something at the lake that I have never seen before. Here are some of the photos
I have no idea how the Army Corps manages the water levels but those things in the trees (and on the tops of that small bush still in the deep water are chunks of ice left from where the water level froze a few days ago. From yesterday to today, the water level has dropped by about 2-3’ or so. So while the water went down, a lot of the ice stayed. In all my times at this lake with flooding and freezing, I’ve never seen this. The photo that most spoke to me on this was this one with the bush still deep in the waters with the tiniest chunks of ice holding on.
While it was darn cold (again...), this was truly an awe-moment, or a breath-giving moment. So I went back to Psalm 28 and I was looking for awe, wonder and I definitely did not find it in the first half which is the writer praying for deliverance from enemies and the “heedless.” But then the Psalms ends in this way (Fischer’s translation):
Gratitude to you
Who are the hearing of my outreaching words
My strength and shield
In whom my heart trusts
And I am helped
And my heart enraptures
And I sing thanksgiving songs to you
Who are the strength of all who love you
The fortress of those dedicated to you
Help us, bless our ongoingness
Feed our hearts
Open us up in the timeless days1
I have put in bold the lines that especially connected these photos with these words.
Outreaching...enraptures...bless our ongoingness...feed our hearts...open us up in the timeless days... Seeing these unique sights was most defintiely a moment of all of those things.
So, sometimes this contemplative photography thing goes in other ways... In this case, from the photo to the heart to the words.
Here are a few others from a really unique morning - beauty in the contrasts of the textures...

Grace, Peace, Love, and Joy,
Ed
PS - Later in the day, Scout was none to thrilled about going out into the cold again…Trying her cute eyes to just stay on the couch… (It didn’t work)
