So, I hope you took some time to read the first post from today about my experience with Rob Bell’s latest podcast and the musical composition he reflected upon. The rest of this will make much more sense if you read that.
I shifted over here to Substack about a year ago from Wordpress. The primary reason for it was that the interface here was much simpler and I was tired of dealing with some of the intricacies that you have to deal with on Wordpress. I didn’t shift over here because I wanted to make money (like Substack often promises) but because it was simpler, cleaner, and it is free (which Wordpress wasn’t).
But when I set it up, I saw how others were setting up their “paid subscriber” only areas and I kind of felt like I should do the same. So I did and I am deeply grateful for each person who saw something in what I was putting out in the world who thought “I am going to support this.” I have been humbled by each of you who did so. Thank you.
So I started off with putting together an online contemplative photography course and a few other things for paid subscribers only but as the year went along, I really struggled with what to share with “paid” subscribers and what to share without a paywall. I kept having this feeling that I simply wanted to share what I was seeing and it wasn’t about trying to make money but trying to bring something to the world of beauty, hope, joy, life.
And it was Rob Bell’s podcast on Monday that flipped the switch for me - a message of finding the ways that we work to make sense of this crazy world. One of those for me is what I share here. Much of what I share here is not because I think my voice needs to be heard in the world, but it is my own work of trying to make sense of this world. I feel like what I have been given in the way that I see the world is a gift from God and why should I put any part of that gift behind a limit of whether someone pays to subscribe?
So, going forward, all posts that I share will be fully public posts and I have changed the pricing (as much as I am able to as Substack has a minimum amount for monthly and annual subscriptions) to simply give an opportunity if you want to support my work. As I reflect on the last ten years of my life, I see so much of the healing and transformation that has come into my life as pure gift and so I want to share that gift with others.
Thank you once again to each of you who has subscribed either as a free or paid subscriber. I am deeply grateful for each of you and for the ways that something of what I have shared has connected with you. The posts will keep coming. :-)
Last Calendar Reminder - I know that this last thing might feel a bit out of place considering what I shared above, but December 1 is the deadline for calendar orders - Daily Doggo Devotions, Paths of Life / Paths of Faith, or A Year of Sunrises. My Advent devotional is also available as a PDF. You can order them via this link
Grace, Peace, Love, and Joy to you.

PS - Because I need to have a photo…how about one of Scout and me before we headed out for a walk a few weeks ago…
Ed, I've appreciated your generosity in spirit, deep knowledge, and sensitivity. Per my comment on Take 1 of "Quartet," I will continue to listen to Rob Bell's impression of his concert experience, as you've alluded to something I didn't catch yet...
And, I'd really like to hear more about YOUR experience of "Quartet"...
