Patterns in Water and Over Time
There’s a line from the recent-ish incarnation of the sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica that has such deep eternal truth in it.
All this has happened before, all this will happen again
The line is actually originally from the opening of Disney’s 1953 version of Peter Pan which begins, “All this has happened before, and it will all happen again, but this time it happened in London.”1
These both echo what is shared in Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done;
there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there a thing of which it is said,
“See, this is new”?
It has already been,
in the ages before us.
I saw this in the ice and water on Friday morning and a year ago on the same day in the exact same place.
Here is what I saw in 2025 on February 20.

Here’s what I saw on February 20, 2026:

Obviously not exactly echoing but for sure rhyming. In both, the ice was melting and was in that in-between stage. What stood out the most to me was the contrast between the patterns of the ice and the patterns of the moving (or still) water.
There was also the sound of the water being blown against the rough edges of the melting ice. It sounded like hundreds of wine glasses clinking together. It was so unique and lovely. I ran it through an audio filter in Premiere Pro and was able to somewhat eliminate the strong wind noise to isolate the unique sound. It is still a little tinny but you can hopefully get the sense of it.
I believe I shared a video like this at some point in the past as well.
All this has happened before, all this will happen again.
Here are a few more from Friday:
I am so grateful for the journaling app that I use (not paid advertisement) that allows me to return to these moments. It is called Day One and I’ve been using it for well over a decade now. One of its best features is one that takes a while to develop - On This Day - allows me to each day look back on what I have written in previous years on that day. It is such a gift to have this daily recollection of the cycles of the last decade+. It allows me to see these cycles of All this has happened before, all this will happen again.
Speaking of what has been shared before…Scout! Here she seems to be intrigued by the “Jesus Goose”…

Grace, Peace, Love, Hope, and Joy,

That is very interesting. Looking back to see nearly the same thing a year later. There are other similar statements, I think. Everything old is new again is from a song, I think. And in a little different area, what goes around, comes around.
Have a lovely day with your wonderful wife and with Scout.
Fortunately, Scout is smart enough to know she's not divine!
As always, I appreciate your mesmerizing photos
