Observing Advent Day 03 - Peace

Observing Advent - Day 03 - Peace I wanted to write this reflection about a peaceful setting, scene, experience. Maybe a picture of a serene setting, etc. Instead, I have heard today about two individuals who are facing life and death situations that came out of nowhere. One is facing cancer that has spread to several areas of her body upon its discovery and the other is a new friend who has been in a serious car accident and is currently in a coma with a grim prognosis ahead. My reflection upon peace is like this picture, a hand (or two) uplifted and knees bent (which you cannot see in the picture) praying for a peace to come into these (and so many other) circumstances in the world. For the peace that passes understanding, for the peace that Jesus promises his disciples in John 14, for a presence of power and healing to come into these circumstances for restoration and hope. So many times, I find myself wrestling with this very question and wrangling with the words of Jesus - my peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not let them be afraid.
