O Magnum Mysterium
Yesterday in worship, one of the pieces of music that our guest musicians performed was entitled “O, Magnum Mysterium.” O Great Mystery. It was a beautiful piece that was played as we came forward to the communion table. I have grown more and more into the places of mystery and wonder over the last few years. When years before I sought certainty and hard facts, I find myself drawn more and more to the places where I don’t quite know what is ahead. That is how I feel as we are about 30 minutes from getting on board the first leg of our flight to Kenya. I know the immediate path before us over the next 22 hours but after that, we’ll see what the Lord has before us. I do know that I am excited about being able to jump into the movement that God is up to in Kenya. I don’t know what it will be, but I do know it is of God and for that I am grateful.
Even this morning, my reading in Mark 9 spoke of this mystery - Mark's telling of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Why that happened? What actually took place? What must it have been like? To us today it is more mystery and wonder than anything else. But there is beauty in that mystery - in the path that is before but the full journey isn't clear.
