I wrote a post last night about this that I ultimately did not publish. The title was "Not Just a Good Neighbor...the Greatest Neighbor". Nicole likely did not intend to lay down her life on Wednesday, but that is what happened. And she did it, not for friends, but for neighbors, for strangers, for immigrants. And this, is indeed the greatest love.
When we take up this fight, we must be willing and prepared to do the same.
I really wrestled also with whether to post this or whether it was something just for me. Goodness knows there are plenty of takes being shared about Renee Good and ICE and everything else
But I feel like the thing that has been laid on my heart to begin this year is about how am I living beyond myself? How am I letting go of things being just about me and giving beyond that?
I let a trusted writer-friend read mine, and she did not like the "inflammatory" language I used regarding calling ICE what they really are: present-day Gestapo. But I believe in calling a spade a spade. Jesus called the Pharisees a brood of vipers...that likely went over like a led zepplin. Part of being authentic is naming things appropriately. Fascism is here now...let's be honest about that.
