Mark Photos - 8:27-30 - One
Peter’s Declaration about Jesus Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they answered him, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.” And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him.

My kids have a ridiculous amount of Legos in our basement. Its a combination of gifts from family and friends, purchases they have saved up for, and the Legos my parents passed along from when I was a kid. My wife and I talk about the "Lego Creep" - as the Legos expand further and further off the play mat onto the carpet. They get beaten back only to begin the creep again. But I digress. One of the things that amazes me is the way that the kids remember a specific Lego - color, shape, size - and hunt for it until they find it. Its the Lego that stands out among all the others. Its not just any Lego, but its THE lego piece that they need. This is where I went with the passage from Mark today. Peter's initial response is about all the things out there that people have said about who Jesus might be - comparing him to the many other people from history and the present day (side note - it somewhat reminds me of the one scene in The Life of Brian when Brian hides amongst all the prophets outside the temple - but again I digress), but then Jesus gets down to it with him - "Who do you say that I am?" Not anyone else, but you Peter, who do you say that I am? You are the Messiah. You are the one that we have been looking for, waiting for, praying for. You are the One.
