Mark Photos - 8:11-13 - A sign
The Demand for a Sign The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.” And he left them, and getting into the boat again, he went across to the other side.

This morning my daughter came downstairs with this little piece of paper. Its been sitting in her window for the last several weeks with a stencil of a cross taped on it. She was doing a science experiment to see how quickly it faded and how it would look when the stencil was taken off. Here's the end result. She came down and said (as I had just finished reading this passage today and wondering what the picture would be) "Look at my sign!" Funny how these timing things come together. It may not be exactly what the sign was that the Pharisees were looking for, but ultimately, the cross is the sign that Jesus left for us - a sign of forgiveness, hope, and reconciliation. The taking of what was a weapon and a device of punishment and turning it into a way of redemption. A wonderful sign to hear about this morning.
