Mark 12:35-37 - The Question about David’s Son While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, by the Holy Spirit, declared, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ David himself calls him Lord; so how can he be his son?” And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.

So, this was a struggle all day with this passage. I have always wrestled with it - I have read all the different interpretations of it, but have still tried to get a clear sense of what Jesus was talking about. I took several pictures through the day and none just seemed to fit. So, I was talking with my wife about it tonight and we were talking about circular logic and things about “Lord said to my Lord” while I was scrolling through pictures I had taken in the past. Well, I came across this picture taken at Buca di Beppo a few years ago. It really just seemed to fit -mostly reflecting on the way that my brain felt in working through this passage. My wife had an even better interpretation of it, “Its kind of convoluted and loopy, but if you look hard enough, you’ll find some good meat in there” - the meat being that the Messiah would be of the line of David. But still feeling a bit loopy and convoluted.
