Looking ahead to 2023
Thank you for joining me on this Active Advent journey. I hope you experienced the presence of the holy in very tangible ways through these last few weeks. I believe I am going to continue the practice in my daily prayers of Await, Allow, Accept, and Attend. It has continued to speak to me in some beautiful ways throughout this season.
As one rooted as a 5 in the Enneagram, I have been growing in my understanding of the importance of feeling what is happening in my body and not simply observing the world and thinking/processing. As my spiritual director regularly reminds me, “you are so much more than just a head and a brain.” I often end my daily yoga practice with these four actions and trying to feel where my body is at the end of my practice and using these actions and senses for what is ahead.
Looking into 2023, I will continue my regular postings as I have been doing - reflections on Scripture, life, beauty, nature, etc. Those will continue to be free for anyone. For those who choose to be paid subscribers, I’ll be doing some additional things throughout the year.
Rough copies of the book I am writing. I have been slowly working on a book about the intersection between contemplative practice and photography. I have a few very rough chapters written but one of my 2023 goals is to be far more consistent with this work. So, I’ll be sharing those for your reading (and if you want to offer suggestions, I’d love them!)
Lent Through the Lens - I have been working on a weekly series I will be doing during the Christian season of Lent that will be drawing upon the book ideas but really much more focused on opportunities similar to the contemplative photography classes I have facilitated here in Cincinnati. They will be 15-20 minute videos going through the practice and ways that you can enter into it on your own. I may also set up some of the new substack author chats as well.
Photography - If you are in need of photography for things you are working on, I have a huge well-organized library (Myers-Briggs J) of photos I have over the last 7=8 years that I am happy to share from. So if you need a photo on hope, love, joy, sunrise, light, snow, and a ton of other topics, let me know. Or if there’s something you are looking for, I always have my camera with me so I am happy to see what emerges.
I am grateful you have been on this journey with me and I am so grateful for the new folks who have joined on the way. I especially need to do a shout out thank you to
for her generous and encouraging recommendation of my site as I know that is what connected many of you to my work. So thank you Carrie so much!I will likely have two more posts before the end of the year - one of some of the beauty of I have experienced the last 4-5 days and then one reflecting back on the year as a whole.
Grace, Peace, Love, and Joy,
Ed
