Lent 45 - Fear
Living in the US right now, the new normal is here for all of us. 6’ is the number. Every store has pieces of tape on the floor or fancier signs like this one to remind us of “social distance”. I am grateful for the ways that it seems we have flattened the curve somewhat but the reality is that just in the last 2 or 3 days more Americans died of Covid19 than died on September 11. There is good reason to be afraid of this virus. But I pray that the fear doesn’t last forever. Yes we are going to be changed because of this whole experience. There will very much be a “before” and an “after” for this. Remember “before” Covid19 when we would... that’s going to be a regular thing I am sure.
But I do not want to be gripped by fear for the rest of my life because of this. I still want to be able to spend time in a crowded restaurant with close friends, I want to not have to worry about who touched the door handle before me. I don’t want to walk around all of life with a mask in my car for me to wear whenever I go out. I want to continue to live the sticker that I have on my computer....
Faith > Fear
For God did not give us a spirit of fear but one of power, of love, and of self-discipline.
