When this Great Pause started, one of the movies that we watched as a family was The Breakfast Club. We watched this as one of our children will be transitioning to high school next year and there’s no better movie about high school than TBC.
There’s one part that always speaks to me. Towards the end of the film as these five very different students have come together and seen somethings new in themselves and in one another, one of them asks the rest...what is going to happen on Monday. Here’s the scene:
It is honestly a tough clip to watch because of the brutal honesty shared among them. But they are real with one another. But still tough to hear.
Yesterday I was listening to a short OnBeing podcast and one of the questions that came up was something similar. What will we be like when all this is done? Right now we are all being changed by this shared experience. Life is transforming in ways that we can see and ways that we cannot. But what will happen when we are able to come back together? Will we go back to what we were doing previously? Will we go back to the ways that we were dividing ourselves from one another? Will we continue the deep heart for finding connections during this time?
None of us know how long this is going to be and none of us know how it will all turn out. But I pray that we will be a better people on the other side. I pray that we’ll be more like Brian in this video who commit to be different on Monday than we were before all this.
