Lent 2013 Photos - Day 25 - Faithful

The best phrase I have encountered about being faithful comes from the title of Eugene Peterson's book on the Psalms - A Long Obedience in the Same Direction. Being faithful is exactly that - a long process heading in the same way. This is true in any use of the word faithfulness - faith, relationships, employment, etc. Faithfulness is not a shot term act, but a day by day process. And it is a process in the Christian life of obedience. Obedience to the teachings of Scripture, to the movings of the Spirit, and the guidance of others. My daily reading had this quote from Teresa of Avila, a 16th century Spanish mystic -

Let nothing disturb you, nothing dismay you. All things are passing, God never changes. Patient endurance attains all things. God alone suffices

. Lent is much this way - 40 days pointed in the same direction - towards the cross and the empty tomb. Then from there, pointed toward the world to share the great news.
