Lent 2013 Photos - Day 03 - See
I have had to wear glasses/contacts since third grade. Glasses or contact lenses have been a part of my life for the vast majority of my life. Its now the same for all 3 of our kids as they all have glasses as well. I wish someday I could get Lasik, but for now its still a very elective procedure and there's many more things that I need to spend money upon. But I do long for being able to wake up in the morning and seeing clearly across the room. Today's word for Lent - See - really speaks to me.

Eugene Peterson translates 1 Corinthians 13:12 in this way..."We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!" Some translations talk of seeing through a mirror dimly, others speak of a glass. Either way, its a message about how, in this life, we see things imperfectly and there will be a day when we will not only see clearly, but we will be able to know God as clearly as God already knows us.
Lent is a season of working on that process that isn't just in a life beyond, but in the life now. God desires us to come to know God more and more beginning now...right now. There will still be scratches on the lenses, but the more we search of the things of God, the clearer things will slowly become.
