Ephesians 3:16-19 - I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength— that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
I read this passage several days ago but a combination of not being able to find the picture I took a few years ago and also being really busy around our house with some work that needed to be done... But I finally found the picture today - I took this picture on the Stanford campus a little over a year or so ago - these huge trees were right outside the room where our family had gathered for a memorial service. Before the service started, I was outside just looking up at these majestic trees marveling at their size.
But with as amazing as these are, I love the way that Eugene Peterson translates this part of Ephesians. The extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love...reach out and feel the breadth, plumb the depths, rise to the heights, test how far Christ’s love will go. Wow. So beautiful. So powerful. So needed.
