Opening up a jar of preserves
Many of us have similar memories of parents or grandparents taking summer fruits and going through the long (but oh so worth it) process of making "preserves." There is such a wonderful joy of opening up a jar of summer preserves in the middle of winter and getting a taste of what is ahead come summer. As I thought about the next step in our sermon series on Daring to be Different (focusing on the 4th Great End of the Church - the Preservation of the Truth), I began to focus not as much on the Truth, but on what it means to Preserve something. What does it mean to take some wonderful thing in life and turn it into something that lasts and lasts and lasts?
Our focus scriptures this Sunday come from the book of 2 Chronicles and from the Gospel of John. You can read them here.
So, prepare yourself for worship this Sunday by opening up a jar of preserves that might be down in the basement and pray about what it means to you to "Preserve the Truth."
