The last chapter of Hope: A User's Manual - This is one of my favorite photos from the last three months. It was from the same morning that gave the background to the collage of sunrises on August 4...What stands out to me about this photo is that Scout is not in the already of the emerging light. She’s in the not-yet. Yet she is looking toward the already even in the not yet. If there’s one theme that stands out from MaryAnn’s book to me it is the truth of the already but not yet. Hope isn’t about being on the other side of the struggles. Hope is how we are living in and moving through all that life can bring.
I have enjoyed these messages and take away on the concept of HOPE. The timing is just the best, as I leave for my Portuguese Camino de Santiago on Monday. I’m still finishing the details here at home and even as I write this, I’m listening g to a con-ed that needs to be completed while I’ll be off work. I’m so looking forward to TWO FULL WEEKS OFF from my work responsibilities.
LOVE the photo of Scout. And Jeff has that same painting in his office! Thank you for this powerful series you did on MaryAnn's book! So many takeaways from your reflections!
Amy and I did a trip to San Diego a couple years after we got married and went to John August Swanson‘s studio and got to meet him. Such an incredibly gracious and kind man. And seeing some of his paintings in person was gorgeous.
Scout is one devoted companion. I guess he doesn’t have a problem with getting up early in the mornings? I did a lot of hiking in my early days.: grand Tetons, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite national Park, Estes Park, Colorado and many others that I’m grateful that God was with me on the journey. I wish I would’ve had a pet to journey with me.
PS ; one day by accident I got on scouts Facebook page I believe. I was wondering, how do you bring that up again? I would like to read some of his post.
Scout does not have an issue with early mornings because she gets late morning nap time afterwards. Dogs have a good life. She is a truly amazing companion.

Thank you for these messages alongside each chapter. I enjoyed each post and chapter. I agree this photo is one of your best! It makes it perfect that Scout would be in the frame. I hope you do something like this again.
I’m so excited for your trip and for what will emerge for you through that pilgrimage!
I have enjoyed your remarks very much. And that photo is dynamite. Yes, you hit all the high points in that one. Truly blessed.

The photograph of Scout is perfect. Hope- that place before the not there yet. Blessings and thanks for sharing.
Edward. I just lent my copy of *Hope* to my therapist (?!). Because of your comments I bought it in the first place, and now follow *Blue Room*.
I just finished Dr. Tara Brach 's *Radical Acceptance* and highly recommend it to anyone struggling
I’ll add that book to my list and thank you!!
