Imago Scriptura 80 - Psalm 50 - Big Skies
The last several Psalms (yesterday beginning with Psalm 46 through today) have spoken to me of God's deep and abiding power. But Psalm 50 today really captured it for me with the opening few verses...
The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.
From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
"Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice"
And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.
The last few weeks as we traveled through areas of the West, I have seen time and again examples of the Creator behind it all. I have seen it in the animals we encountered, the scenery we walked through and drive through and slept within, the people we were with, the history we witnessed, and in the skies that surrounded us. One thing that I have missed in moving here to Ohio are the big skies you experience out west. The horizons that seem so very far away and the spread of the panoramas that one can take in. Maybe that's why I took so many panorama pictures this trip. But it is in the skies that I see the power of the divine so often.
There were so many sunsets (especially) that just enraptured me the last few weeks including this one pictured here. The vast spectrum of colors that filled the sky and took my breath away.
How much greater then is the power of the one behind it all. If the skies take my breath away, what about the one who put it all into motion and continues to move and be at work? That's power, that's grace, that's wonder. Hallelujah. That is the mighty one, God, the Lord...God shining forth.
