Romans 13:11-14 - An Urgent Appeal Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

I think its a fair bet that I am one of only a handful of pastors who has a full suit of armor in his office. I may not be the only one, but I doubt its too many. You see, this was a gift from my brother-in-law and family for my wife and my wedding back in the day. They wanted us to have a memorable wedding knight! Yes, that's the family I married into! Our knight has survived many moves - across country a few times and from one house to my office and around several more times. He has shown up in childrens sermons and other church events and he often is dressed up for the holidays. But I thought of him as I read this passage and Paul's call for us to put on the armor of light - the armor of God to surround, protect, and support us. As I was taking this picture today, I realized that there was an interesting (at least to me) connection as my wall hanging I bought in Cambodia with Jesus written in many languages hung in the background of the knight. Felt like the right juxtaposition - the armor we have is not one of offense and attack, but of love, compassion, grace, and truth in the manner that Jesus laid before us. So, while I put on the armor of light, I do so as a servant of the servant of all - Jesus our Savior.
