Imago Gospels - 51 - Things Left Behind 2
As I was leaving the beach that same morning I noticed this little glass bauble left on a stand on the life guard chair. I immediately knew that I needed to play with it a bit. I took a ton of pictures shooting through this little glass ball. When I downloaded the pictures later I loved the way that everything was turned over. I didn't think about it when taking the picture but one thing I loved is how the images in the ball are clear while everything else is out of focus. That day I read from Luke 16 about more of the interactions between Jesus and the religious leaders of the day.
Jesus' teachings were turning everything upside down. What they and others once understood was being turned around and pushing people to see the world In a new way. Not much has changed for us today - we all have the ways that we see the world and Jesus speaks into that of God's way of seeing the world. Scripture and prayer are two of those ways for us to work toward looking though that "glass ball" like this one on the beach. Everything else goes a bit more dim while God's way becomes clearer.
A song that I have sung many times in worship captures this...
Turn your eyes upon Jesus Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim In the light of God's glory and grace.
