Imago Gospels - 19 - Chess
This was a rough passage to get through - the woes and the curses going on against the religious leaders. I had a hard time finding something for this picture today - the places I was didn’t lend themselves too well to it. Until late this afternoon when we were at a market in Cape Town and my son found a chess set that he wanted to buy. Before he bought it though, the man selling it challenged him to a game that would help determine the final cost. The man selling it, Tinashe (whose name means, “God with us”) kept talking about chess as a battle between one army and another. I didn’t think about it until I got home and played a game with my son - I thought of the battle going on in these chapters between Jesus and the religious leaders - pieces on a board being moved around, some with clear motives, some with ones that are not clear. Got me thinking about my own motives in my actions…
