Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has shined For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this ——
One of the traditions in our little village here is the annual Light Up night. Luminaries are purchased (fundraiser) and then set out to create lines of unbroken light throughout the village. Its a beautiful sight. I was also surprised to get up this morning to see nearly all of ours still burning some 13 hours after we put them out. But I just love the connection of the light shining through the darkness. Our street wasn’t so much of an unbroken line, but there were parts of town where the light just went from house to house to house. It was beautiful. I think of the light in this passage in this way. The people who walked in darkness have now seen a light that leads them in the way through.
