Imago Adventus - 05 - Bless
Genesis 12:1-7 - Bless Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy- five years old when he departed from Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother’s son Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Today was a rainy day almost all day - started out with a misting drizzle this morning and currently is a pretty solid rain and will be through tomorrow. I went for a hike in the rain this afternoon where I took this picture. I walk walking through the rain on the trail thinking about the many ways that I can see God’s blessings in my life. What came to mind for me though was that each raindrop that fell was a blessing from God - everything was covered outside with the rain - there were puddles forming where the blessings had gathered together. There were drops that were hanging off branches where the blessing had not quite yet reached the ground. I could hear each blessing hitting my rain hood. My jeans showed the patches where the blessings had come together and my not-quite-so-waterproof shoes were feeling some blessings sneaking in. As I talked with a friend of mine yesterday, there’s a mindfulness to be aware of the blessings of God around us (or a heartfulness as I like to call it) where we are seeing to actively be aware of the blessings around us, but then to take those blessings and pass them along to others. As God blesses, so we may bless.
