Imago Adventus - 03 - Where are You?
Genesis 3:6-9 - Where are You?
The woman … saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees . Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Growing up, it was always easy to know what direction I was going. Where my hometown was, I always had the mountains to the west, so everything based off of there. If the mountains were behind me, I was facing east. If they were to my right, I was facing south. To my left, I was facing north. When I moved away after college, it became a lot more difficult to know what direction I was going…where I was. I had lost the source of my directions and it took a while to re-orient myself in my new location. Where I live now, I base much upon a major north-south road - something not nearly as beautiful as the front range of the Rockies. :-)
While Voskamp focuses on how God searches us out, like God did for Adam and Eve in the garden, I kept going back today to this place of understanding where I am and the basis for knowing what direction I am heading. I am thankful that no matter where I am - physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc - God seeks me out, calling out. But I also know that tI want to be tuned into God’s direction - have God in that place where I base every part of my life upon where God calls and God leads.
Voskamp asks, “What would you say if God called out to you now, ‘Where are you?’” For me, I feel I can say that I know that God and I are pretty connected and I am much more tuned in than I have been at times in the past. Does that mean I always know where I am heading (or more importantly, where God is leading…) - not fully…but I feel like I’m in the ballpark…
Now where are those mountains?
