Holy As...
It has been a few weeks since a Carrie Newcomer post...On Sunday she shared one of her “Song Labs” where she goes deep in a video into the crafting of one of her songs. This week, she reflected on the crafting of the lyrics of her song, “Holy As the Day is Spent.” Take a few moments and listen to the song here:
I listened to her reflections on this beautiful song and I felt a leading to make a list of where I found “holy” for the next 24 hours. Here’s my list (not necessarily in order of the day). What would you add for your places of “holy”?
-Seeing the results of my hard work on health
-The warm hug from my wife
-Hearing the excitement of a soon-to-be in college teenager
-The goose that let me walk up close and then the one that hissed at me
-The little finch that hopped alongside me for a few minutes
-Subtle glimpses of blue in the morning clouds
-The way a painting can speak a message
-Deep sharing of Holy Week in Bible study
-The stories of people’s lives
-All the things we laid before Jesus on Palm Sunday
-The blue sky and sun this afternoon
-Scout playing with neighbor baby
-The pork loin I smoked Saturday night
-The response to my sermon
-Returning to Belize in June
-Wonderful conversations with my children today
-Soft green grass
-The have-a-great-morning kiss from my wife
-The gentle cool breeze
-All the doggos at Glenwood today.
-The fiery bloom
-The sound of the rushing stream
-Tiny pink buds waiting to bloom
-The painted stones and pine cones at the entrance to Glenwood
-The rhythm of shoes on a gravel path
-A hawk soaring on invisible current
-The young mother seeing her toddler continue to take hesitant first steps
-Hard work that gets hands greasy and dirt under the fingernails
-Stories shared of people doing amazing service for others
-The woman holding another church member’s child at communion so the father could receive the bread and the cup
-Beautiful and supportive and welcoming groups like K4P and KYG
-A simple dinner of leftovers with my wife
-Deep laughter
-A solid night of sleep
-The small sound of joy from my at-home teenager upon seeing freshly baked muffins for breakfast before school
-Waking up this morning, to experience the holy all over again
