From the Broken
I don’t know when this tree fell but it definitely looks like it has been a long time. It definitely doesn’t look like there was a choice to cut it down - there’s no clean cut. It is jagged and rough. Maybe it was struck by lightning or blown down in heavy winds at some point 5 years, 10 years, 20 years ago. Regardless of when, the reality is that it fell and it broke.
But now, some time later, life is returning. I am not good at identifying plants but there’s life growing out of the broken stump of this tree. I don’t know if it will be sustainable there but for now, it is growing and it is green and it is alive.
God can take what is broken and bring life and growth and something new can emerge. What would be beautiful would be to return to this space in five years and see how the new has joined with what was into something new and wondrous.
Here’s a song that speaks to this as well. In the Broken Places by David Wilcox
