Emerging
So I woke at my normal early time today. The sun was starting to bring some light to the morning but not much. But enough that I could see the light starting to emerge from the side of the window and reflecting on the bottom of the window frames. But that wasn’t the only thing that I saw - I saw the cross there in the window frame against the lightening sky. I laid there and prayed about what the Lord laid on my heart last week about growing in love, or as my wife put it, “Doubling down on love”. I felt my beard and could feel the stubble that has started to emerge and I am grateful for the ways that others have responded about doubling down on love in their lives too. Something wider emerging perhaps?
Then I read this quote at the beginning of the daily email I receive from Richard Rohr - he quotes from The Brothers Karamazov...
Love [people] even in [their] sin, for that is the semblance of Divine Love and is the highest love on earth. Love all God’s creation, the whole and every grain of sand in it. Love every leaf, every ray of God’s light. Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you have perceived it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.
And on this Election Day, I pray that love may emerge as we move forward in our country, regardless of the outcome of races today and tonight.
