One of the features I love the most about the journaling app I use (Day One) is a feature where it shows what was written in the past each day. So part of my journaling routine is taking in what I have shared in the past. I see how things have changed, how other things have stayed the same, how growth has occurred, what I was wrestling with in the past, and how some things have been resolved or healed. I also get to see photographs from those days in the past. Sometimes there are moments that seem to have a sense of rhyming - where something from the present “rhymes” with what was shared in years past. Yesterday was one of those days. The rhymes in my life involve my two male adult children. I cringe when I see their father in their words or actions. It makes me wonder how much DNA creates personality and character. When I see 50 year old kids, I'm amazed not about how they look, but how they behave. It can get scarily obvious in the most insignificant movements. I might be able to remember how my own past is reflected in my current life if those memories are triggered by something or someone, but that doesn't happen often.
