Bible in a Year - Psalm 37 - Still
This was what my basement ceiling looked like at 530 this morning. We were at about 12 hours at that time without power. One of the things about a power outage is how quiet and still everything feels. There’s no hum of a refrigerator, no slight buzz from an electric light, no furnace running. And visually it is darkness infrequently broken up by bursts of light other than the other way around. It is lovely.
This morning I woke expecting the power to be on. But it would not be on for another few hours. So I spent some time under a blanket in the basement doing my daily readings and this one line from Psalm 37 spoke to me sitting in the dark broken up only by the light shining onto the ceiling from the small flashlight.
Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him;
