Bible in a Wordle - Epoxy - Deuteronomy 6
I've got to admit, when I read the Deuteronomy reading for Saturday and then did the day's Wordle (EPOXY), I immediately thought of a movie quote, “This is glue... strong stuff.” Said by Dan Ackroyd (as Elwood) in The Blues Brothers.
In Deuteronomy 6, there’s a beautiful statement about who God is and how to remember to stay faithful to God. It begins with what is known as the Shema, the central faith affirmation of the Jewish people.
Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Keep these words, recite them to your children, talk about them, bind them, fix them, write them...all are ways to keep this affirmation and command central in life. It is to help these commands stick in our lives and to never forget them. It is for this reason that these verses (along with others from Deuteronomy) are written on Mezuzah - scrolls that are hung on the doorpost of the doors of many Jewish people. It serves as a reminder as they go in and go out of their home to remember and to be faithful and obedient.
