BIAY - Matthew 7 - Distorted
I like to think I see things clearly. I like to think I know right from wrong in every circumstance. But the reality is that I often prefer to use one standard of judgement for myself and a different one for others. It is like this reflection. Yes, it is reflecting the world around it, but definitely not as it is. As I said, I like to think I am seeing things clearly when, in reality, my perception is distorted by many things.
Jesus understood this. In the Sermon on the Mount, he spoke of how we need to judge ourselves first by the same measure we use toward others. In other words, get my own vision and perception right before I try to judge others.
Easy to say.
Hard to do.
